Service is the substance of what I want, not an approach to pain. I derive genuine satisfaction from being useful within a structure I did not have to invent myself: standing duties, small obligations that persist between our meetings, the sense that my attention is properly employed. Most of what draws me happens in the mind rather than on the skin.

I prefer low intensity held with high consistency, and I have been in this community long enough to have no patience left for being anyone's first experiment — though I will happily be patient with someone thoughtful.

Correspondence is welcome, and the longer the better. I would rather know, in writing, what you would actually want kept, and how you prefer to be told when something has stopped working, than discover either by accident.
